Argentina Raises Salaries for Domestic Workers

Buenos Aires, November 22 (NA) - The National Commission for Work in Private Households (CNTCP) agreed on a 1.3% increase for domestic workers, to be effective in December, thus completing the raise agreed upon at the beginning of November. This adjustment, as reported by the Argentine News Agency (NA), will impact the salaries of over 1.3 million sector workers nationwide, whose remunerations had not been modified since September, the month that closed the previous salary increase cycle. Early in November, the CNTCP, composed of union representatives, employers, and authorities from the Ministry of Economy and the Secretariat of Labor, confirmed a 2.7% salary increase for domestic employees, which was split into two parts: 1.4% applied this month and the remaining 1.3% to be implemented in December. Additionally, a non-remunerative bonus of $14,000 per month was established, to be paid for three months, until January, for those who work more than 16 hours per week. For illustrative purposes, 'if the person only worked four of the last six months, they will be entitled to receive 66.67% (4 divided by 6 months) of half of the best salary of the last four months'. This payment, which began to be applied from September 1, 2021, uses September 1, 2020, as the initial period. Furthermore, those working in unfavorable zones (La Pampa, Río Negro, Chubut, Neuquén, Santa Cruz, Tierra del Fuego, Antarctica and the South Atlantic Islands, or in the district of Patagones, in the province of Buenos Aires) receive a 30% supplement on the minimum wages for each category. Regarding the Annual Complementary Salary (SAC), the Customs Revenue and Control Agency (ARCA) explains that it is paid upon the completion of the June and December semesters and is calculated based on 50% of the best salary of the last semester. ARCA also clarifies that 'if the service period is less than six months, it must be settled proportionally to the months worked (Labor Contract Law)'.
